shutterstock_159748700Hybrids are anchored to dental implants (usually 4 to 6 implants are used) that are placed in your jaw. It is called a hybrid because it’s a combination of fixed implants with a removable denture.

Implant fix hybrid prosthesis is a combination of denture and a fix bridge. You can’t take it in and out of your mouth. It is permanently fixed onto the implants. Therefore, it is like a fix implant bridge. However, it doesn’t have a porcelain on the teeth. Instead it is made out of acrylic like a denture. It looks very natural and it’s a fix bridge!

Once the implant is fully integrated into the bone and exposed the fix hybrid bridge can start to be made. Typically a fix hybrid bridge takes several visits. The first visit is taking a mold of your mouth to send to lab. At this visit, we also determine the shade of your tooth with YOUR approval. If you want any special request to be done to the tooth, please let us know.

The second visit, typically 1 week after the mold, is to try the framework in. The abutments have to fit in the implants. It then goes back to the lab.

The third visit is to try in the abutments and copings and framework. This visit can sometimes take another visit pending if adjustments may need to be made. If everything fits, it then goes to lab for final teeth placement.

The last visit, typically 1 week after the framework try in, the fix hybrid bridge is inserted. Bite is checked to make sure maximum comfort is obtained. Shade is checked to make sure YOU are happy with the esthetics. The hybrid fix bridge is then screwed in. Remember, maintenance and cleaning is very important to the overall healthcare of your gums and teeth.
