Dental implants are one of the most common cosmetic procedures that our practice performs today. Being able to replace a tooth to complete a smile is very important to someone who has lost a tooth to age, decay, or an accident. If you’re thinking about making an appointment to get a dental implant put in, what exactly should you expect? We’ll describe how the process works below so that you know exactly what to expect.
The most common way for a dental implant to be performed is a two visit method spread out over a few months. During your first visit, we will perform simple surgery (don’t worry, you’re sedated and won’t feel a thing!) where we will add an implant to your jaw bone that will act as the “root” for the replacement tooth. This doesn’t take too long in-office, but you’ll wait a few months before the second visit to allow the root to bond with the jaw bone. You’ll usually have a bridge placed over the implant at this time so you won’t accidentally damage it either!
Your second visit will be a lot less invasive and won’t take as much time either. During this appointment you’re actually going to get your new tooth put on! The mold will have been created beforehand to perfectly match your jaw, either by molding the tooth that used to be there or crafting a new one from scratch that will match the rest of the teeth in your mouth. Once it is on, you’re good to go with a beautiful new smile!
There’s nothing to be afraid of when it comes to dental implants, and if you’ve ever been insecure about your smile or had trouble because of missing teeth, then this could be the procedure that solves all of your problems!
