One of the most common questions that a patient might have when they are considering getting dental implants is whether or not they are painful. While you know that the end result will be a healthier and brighter smile and a sturdy implant, there can be a level of anxiety before the procedure. Asking all of the questions that you have and learning about the entire procedure and healing process can give you a better idea as to whether or not dental implants are painful to get.
Basically speaking, you will not usually feel a lot of pain during the procedure itself. We will either numb the location using Novocain or give you some sort of sedation to help you through the actual procedure. Most patients will report that they feel some slight pain after the procedure is finished and the dental implants are in place. Such pain is usually described as more of a mild discomfort during the time that your mouth needs to properly adjust to having the implants. Due to this discomfort, eating and drinking can be a bit difficult until the healing process nears conclusion.
The great news about any pain that comes along with dental implants is that it won’t last long and it will eventually go away. During the healing process, it is important that you listen to and follow all of the instructions that you are given for both pain management as well as oral care. By taking care of your mouth, you are going to find that the discomfort will go away in a much timelier fashion.
